Containers & Orchestration

Install and configure Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Istio, Minikube and OpenShift with step-by-step guides, production-ready configuration examples and troubleshooting tips.

Container tooling is the backbone of modern delivery pipelines. These guides cover everything from installing the Docker Engine on your workstation to running a production Kubernetes cluster with a service mesh in front of it.

Every guide is written against the current release line and verified against the upstream documentation:

GuideCurrent releaseWhat it covers
DockerEngine 29.xEngine, CLI, Buildx, Compose, rootless mode
Kubernetesv1.37kubeadm, containerd, CNI, upgrades
HelmHelm 4CLI, repositories, OCI, chart authoring
Istio1.31istioctl, profiles, sidecar and ambient mode
Minikubev1.39Local cluster, drivers, add-ons, image loading
OpenShift4.22OpenShift Local (CRC), oc CLI, production install

What you will learn

  • Docker — install the Engine and Docker Desktop, run your first container, manage images, volumes and networks, and harden the daemon for production use.
  • Kubernetes — set up a cluster, deploy and scale workloads, manage configuration and secrets, and verify a cluster with kubectl.
  • Helm — package, version and release applications with charts, repositories and rollbacks.
  • Istio — install a service mesh, define traffic policies, and secure service-to-service traffic.
  • Minikube — run a fully featured Kubernetes cluster locally for fast iteration.
  • OpenShift — install the platform and learn the workflow for deploying containerised apps.

Prerequisites

Most guides assume:

  • A 64-bit processor with at least 4 GB of RAM
  • Linux, macOS or Windows with administrator access
  • Basic familiarity with a terminal and shell scripting
